Schedule C, attached to form 706, lists all mortgages, notes, and cash due the decedent. Even though the terms of the various debts or mortgages may provide for the repayment over a number of years, the estate is taxed on the value of these future payments. Paying taxes now on amounts that will be received in the future can cause severe cash flow problems for the estate.
