Glossary Item Box
Generally, a private annuity refers to selling an asset to another party in exchange for an unsecured promise to make annuity payments for the remainder of the seller's lifetime. Using this method removes the asset from the seller's estate. However, payments made to the seller could build up over time if the seller does not spend the money, and the money would be taxable at the seller’s death.
